Why convert an image to PDF

Many forms, portals and employers ask for documents as PDF even when what you have is a photo: a receipt, an ID card, a signed page, a certificate or a screenshot. A PDF opens the same way on every device, prints at a predictable size, and can be combined with other documents into a single file.

Converting a single image

Open the Convert tool and drop in your image. JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF and BMP files are supported, as are plain .txt files. The image is placed on a page sized to fit it, and the result opens in the editor, where you can add text, a signature or page numbers before you download it.

The conversion happens in your browser, so photos of personal documents such as passports or bank cards are not uploaded anywhere.

Get a better result from phone photos

The quality of the PDF depends on the photo. Shoot in good, even light and avoid shadows from your hand or phone. Hold the phone directly above the page rather than at an angle, so text stays straight and readable. Crop away the table or background before converting, using your phone’s built-in photo editor.

If the PDF will be read by someone else, check that the smallest text in the photo is sharp. A blurry photo becomes a blurry PDF; converting does not add detail.

Combining several images into one PDF

For a multi-page document, such as both sides of an ID card or a three-page contract photographed page by page, select all the images at once in the Convert tool. They become one PDF with a page per image. Files are sorted by name, so naming them 01, 02, 03 puts them in the right order automatically, and you can move a file up or down in the list before converting.

Afterwards, flip through the merged file to make sure every page is upright. If a page is sideways, rotate it in the editor before saving the final version.

Keep the file size reasonable

Modern phone cameras produce large images, and a PDF made from several of them can easily exceed email or upload limits. If the final file is too big, run it through the Compress tool, then zoom in to check that the text is still readable.
